Sr. Automation Engineer for Power Generation Projects

Responsibilities:

Interpreting customer specifications, drawings, and documentation requirements, along with industrial standards such as NFPA, CSA, UL508 and NEMA, then translating these requirements into component bills of material, electrical and control system drawings for CCS and BMS control panels and development of control strategies.

Perform programming and configuration including development of logic and process control strategies for Combustion Control Systems (CCS) and Burner Management Systems (BMS) that are applied to large utility-power and industrial boilers along with HRSGs in accordance with NFPA-85 standards.

Perform HMI screen development and associated configuration of ICS supplied Operator Workstations, Engineering Workstations, and Historian packages.

Support ICS business development and sales team with reviewing customer RFQ specifications, assistance with proposal development and detailed project estimating.

Read and understand scope documentation detailing control system functionality required for the implementation of PLC and DCS programs.

Development of logic and control strategies for PLC and DCS based control systems.

Develop simulation logic to support the functional and dynamic testing of PLC and HMI systems. This will involve testing of integrated control systems to ensure the required functionality and proper operation meets each customer’s specifications and expectations.

Train customers on use and operation of supplied control system deliverables.

Provide direction and interface engineering with the ICS and outside panel shops along electrical installation contractors and third-party vendors as required.

Perform on-site start up and commissioning of ICS supplied CCS and BMS control systems.

Qualifications & Required Skills:

Qualifications
- Education: minimum high school diploma or GED equivalent, 2 year technical degree preferred

Essential Qualifications/Requirements

- Five (5) years-plus of experience with energy-related industries and applications that includes District Energy, Central Utility Plants (CUP), Cooling & Heating Plants (CHP), Mission Critical, and Industrial Energy Applications (Combined Cycle Power Plants/Waste Heat Recovery Units/BioDiesel)
- Strong familiarity with control system platforms that include Rockwell Automation (i.e., Plant PAX, Factory Talk SE, Logix PLC hardware) along with the Emerson Delta-V, and Schneider Electric
- Willing to travel 50% in order to meet with target customers in North America
- Ability to work remotely and produce results
