Burner Management & Combustion Control System Modernization
American Electric Power is an industry leader in utility power generation with headquarters in Columbus, OH. With a low NOx burner upgrade they needed modernize their burner management and combustion control systems at their Public Service of Oklahoma Northeastern Unit #2 super critical, gas fired power station. The new system consisted of replacing both Allen Bradley PLC-5 control systems installed in 1966 with redundant Allen Bradley ControlLogix PLC's and I/O modules. The operator interface utilized a Client/Server architecture which included redundant domain controllers, redundant servers, operator workstations and an engineering workstation.

Project Highlights

Innovative Control Solutions was selected by AEP to Provide a process control solution for the plant. ICS utilized Allen Bradley redundant ControlLogix PLC's and FactoryTalk HMI software for the automation and integration of the new equipment ics deliverables included: design and furnish control panels, packaged control building with remote I/O racks, control software design, HMI/PLC programming, field commissioning and start-up of the control systems.

Results

ICS applied its extensive knowledge of process control systems to develop an automation solution to provide a safe and economical control system. The project required a substantial amout of coordination between the customer, boiler manufacturer and installation contractor. Though this was a challenging task ICS was able to rise to the occasion and deliver a successful control system.
